Yet another Mario game.

A lot of the elements of the Super Mario games have been done quite nicely. A few complaints come to mind as I'm rooting out the rest of your secrets: the yoshi egg should generate a good item instead of a regular turtle shell or a regular coin; it's virtually impossible to run through the last desert level without getting hurt; Luigi is like doing 2 + 2 compaired to Waluigi who is more like (2^4)^7=.3+(B*5)/2 (I luv math =P); the bricks in the Princess's Castle don't break if they aren't hidden coin blocks otherwise, which is a minor inconsistency. The game engine for physics could use a little work, since at some points I've fallen through a 1x1 block for what seemed like no good reason, although granted I could drop straight down and land perfectly all the time.

Just for the sake of fairness to other players (as it definitely isn't in any mario game I've played so far), there's a platform that materializes at the right end of the castle when Mario attacks with bob-ombs.

Excellent!!

The graphics are pretty much top notch, although the death animations of the foes could stand to be less rectangular in nature. Regrettably, my comp can't run the game in the best possible fashion, but at least it's smooth and in sync, unlike some of the other games out there where timing issues frequently occur. 'Grats on the eXtreme programming, and the game was highly enjoyable and moderately challenging =D

The music (and i guess some people would complain about lack of monster variety) was getting pretty repetitive after about 10 levels or so, even though they're good action-style flavors, the tracks are just too short. I could swear that some of the game elements were just thrown in to force change on the player, a challenge in of itself but more detracting than actually helping (I don't have problems with this for the purposes of the game that you've made it for.)

I've noticed that you've toned up the difficulty of the game quite a bit since last I checked. Even though it's more difficult, the rewards are substantially greater when played well (for those that don't, suks to be you I guess) and this might be a sort of consideration you need to take on when people start accounts in this "Race War Kingdoms" game (ambiguity has intrigued me to test this mmorpg.) Also, in the original version, the devil birds were found only in the last two levels. In the current version, some of the few beginning levels had one or two of these freaks, which proved near impossible to kill and running into it was fatal. These guys shouldn't appear in the beginning of the game. One last detail: why are there ground weapons in the river?

Those are all the great points of the game, and the little things that need working on. Though there is a bit of professional game development skill behind this flash, you can improve.

Various things everywhere!

Quite vaguely like ZAngband, it's somewhat random (very much so with the starting time), there's several alternatives, pit-falls, and just a loooong way to go where only the most dedicated (okay, maybe mildly dedicated, if you're smart) succeed.

I'm a little on the negative side with the company workers being anime characters from tv shows and stuff (assumed, since I know the cat-eared one in red is), it just doesn't seem right to me. Also, a complete comprehensive guide on how the game works would be nice to consider, since I had to fib on the first few days trying to find out what everything did. And last, there's the serious defect of repetitiveness near the middle and end.

The rpg elements are good, graphics are acceptable, and some of the concepts of the game are a bit on the rarely touched side of things, most notably the office "gauntlet" on which this flash is based entirely on (50 days from a nobody to a CEO, that's fast!)

Overall, it's not a legend nor is it with any particularly new feature with mentioning (about that office thing, "Dilbert" already takes the cake), but I give you a nice pat on the back for doing a job well done!

Shaihulud responds:

Fair words indeed, and nothing can hold a flame to Dilbert, but thanks for the pat on the back!

Soundboards... tsk.

Soundboards are sort of my impression that the creator needs something to do, being bored enough to collect every single sound from a certain game or series.

Anyways, the interface needs work. I had a hard time finding all the "pissed" voices for certain units (quote the orc peon in Warcraft: "Stop poking me!" lol) Spelling needs work too.

You seem to be missing the expansion set of voices. Not that I counted this against your completion, but I don't know what you've been doing with starcraft. Oh yeah, you also forgot the civilian set of voices, which you can obtain through editting your own mission in starcraft. And yet another thing, I'm not sure where you got the science vessel's weird explosion thing, and I've not heard it yet *ponders* so maybe you'd be willing to say where you got it from?

For the zerg sound board, I've had a theory that the zerg are actually saying things as well as a few growls mixed in. My evidence comes from the starcraft "12 days of christmas" song as well as a the devourer's voice when accepting a command that sounds a lot like "okay". I'll be very pleased when you actually determine every single word of the zerg, despite how difficult some of it actually is. (drone pissed: "WHAT!?" "SHUTUP!!" "*something*!")

Good Job!

Sadly, this isn't exactly an original game, but it is fairly interesting. In the instructions, you said there was a time block. This was the only block that I didn't see, just so you know. The pause screen had lots of little gimmicks that would foil exploiters, and I give you a pat on the back (although next time you should just cover up the playing field or something.)

The uber paddle could be used for just the ball, while the red collects power-ups and stuff. I was screwed over several times when a bunch of red "bonuses" flew out of item blocks, leaving me to scramble when the uber paddle wore off. Also, at such high speeds, the ball shouldn't be intercepted by a block that spawns right on it's spot, causing the ball to go who-knows-where. One last thing, when there happens to be a sh!t load of arrow blocks, the resulting explosion leaves me blind to where the ball is flying.

something for bored people

I dunno if you have anymore comments after that, I mean, I hand-clicked my way up to 10k clicks at 15 clicks a second (and still going), that means I have all the time in the world to say things like "your spelling sucks" and "you didn't do what you said you'd do" so... um... yeah...

I personally think endurance mode should be how long you can keep clicking at a certain speed, say like a click every .2 seconds or something.

I won't bother with what's wrong with the rest of your flash =P

A little hard don't you think?

I think many people would complain that this game is freakin' hard!! Not me though, I just think the numbers need tweaks, although I did die a few times.

The fact that the opponent is an AI of random command is pretty much the only reason why you don't die outright, since they could use their "magic" attack twice in a row and kill you (green guys more so if their 2nd damage was actually added) if you don't have good hp, which is more or less at your maximum amount.

I don't have a good grasp at the different items, except for the armors, but the grand staff (got it at 2nd stage) is wicked sick! Just buff myself up 2 or 3 times in magic during battle and my weakest offense spell does "max" damage (why is it 500? then 1000 at 15k exp?)

Maybe your instructions need to be clarified further. I know I'm doing a service to n00bs, but there should be a visible "action gauge" thing saying how many more things you can do before it is your enemy's turn, since time spent buffing doesn't use up your turn, while casting a spell or attacking uses up your turn.

Overall, the rpg is in beta if I guessed correctly, and so I'd say you're off to a fine start. Otherwise, not a very good game at all.

Just like the other defense games

I never used any of the secondary weapons. Actually, I never bought any, so I guess I won't be grading those =P But to the point, this defense game turned out to be pretty much like all the others. The only new things I saw was that you couldn't just go afk to eat dinner in the middle of a running level (yes there's a pause I realize, but I'm saying without that) and the shields. In the end, everything gets pwned. Point values are a little bit screwed up, such as the huge black tank around lvl 20+, it really shouldn't be worth 400 points or so compared to the bomber's 2k points.

A serious downfall of this defense game was that there really wasn't a mob of enemies. It was almost always killing one at a time (sometimes 2 in the last 5 levels, most enemies on the screen I've seen was 5). The least I can say is that they didn't come all as one nice package as I believed they did in the Demonic Defense series.

Wheee*l4g*eeee!!!!

For certain enemies, after I blow them up, the game freezes for a split second. This caused me great headaches in Sa Mantra where my ship would just drive itself into the walls (yes I tried low quality but it's just as bad) and sometimes when there were masses of bullets flying everywhere. Maybe you should work on bandwith conservation.

I applaud your attempt at making a game styled by Tyrian, but I suppose the file size limit for newgrounds just didn't work for you. At least you got the shop part down quite nicely. I don't remember the storyline however, all I remember was that the final level was a bunch of flying fruit (?)

Something that seriously bothered me was the name of the 2nd planet. Is it Liberty or Dune or both?

sspecter responds:

I adressed it in the new ver 1.2. Check it out after some days.

PWNED!

I managed to get 3800!!!!

To be honest, I tried just spamming X after I realized how you made the shooting system. You should always reset the aim to some position or something or make it somewhat more sophisticated. Other than that, you have my respect despite having nearly acquired RSI.

No, you do not get to know my secrets.

Eh? What you want?
