Try harder

This is a good game, I'll give you that. The fact that there was no sound kept on bothering me, plus you can't really jump on the smaller enemies if you have the double-jump boots equipped. There's no button that switches back to the regular attire either, so I was stuck using the heavy boots to stomp on the enemies. Also, my first time through, the boss didn't die, it just sat there when it was suppose to die.

OMG A KEEPER!

those other tutorials should stay blammed forever! This one pwnz!

Now enough of that, the only thing that you didn't take much thought into was explaining the masking part. I don't have the actual flash program, so I guess I'm missing something, although you should have done a better job of explaining it. Also, the cinematic slides in your last tutorial needs working on. Last but not least, your flash is a little on the heavy side in the lag factor compared to the overall average lag of the other flash movies, of which I should say runs pretty smoothly on my crappy computer.

BTW, I found all three major easter eggs! Mwahahaha! One's a sound test (tell nobody!) another gives the history of the games which you borrowed music from (which also contains a message pointing to the sound test) and the last one has the statistics of each of your animations. By "easy to find", I think you actually meant using the cheapo button though. Ever thought about proofing against that? (it's possible, but then one of the easter eggs would be disastrously hard to find)

Helbereth responds:

It does tend to be graphic intensive, I realize. I reccomended medium or low quality settings for some sections. I have ways to help the lag, but it doesn't work on a paused frame (and this being a tutorial, it's loaded with them).

The masking section is really explaining a simple thing. It's a cookie cutter effect - it just requires a lot of forethought.

I chose not to have the buttons be completely hidden because - honestly - the easter eggs are informative as much as they're fun. I didn't want them to be impossible to find. I'm not sure which one you think would have been impossible to locate otherwise (I have some idea) but I chose to offer little hints here and there. Heck there's a message onscreen in the credits that says when there's a button there...

I actually used the one in the credits so that people would watch them (sneaky).

The cinematic slides were done this-afternoon. I literally only spent 20 mins making all three. I've done much better slide effects... I just wanted to demonstrate them.

Just like FFR!

it's not a good setup to use pgdown to strike the cords, or at least that's true with me anyways when it comes to the mild tremillos (god I dont' think that's spelled right.) I foresee a future imitation of the FFR series (finger finger revolution, much like DDR) using guitar songs, and I look forward to it!

Hopefully, by version 1.0, you have features to make this a full game where there are stats and such... but you don't have to =P

Vinegargo responds:

finger finger revolution sounds like a cheap porno :) Ill consider your suggestions.. thanks

It's okay

It's a good game compared to the other breakouts that I've seen. However, you need to work on your collision detection, have a better variety of items (believe me, this isn't the first that I've seen the cheap laser, but the double paddle was interesting) and I'm not sure if you actually want to tell people this, highscore and all that, but collecting the numbers that pop out of some bricks are of good help getting those extra lives.

Eh? What you want?
